Elyse Dashew is an at-large member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education. She was elected in 2015 and has served as Vice Chair of the School Board for three years.
Elyse is a tireless and proven champion for all children of Mecklenburg County and in 2017, led the school board’s successful $922 million bond referendum. As a fierce advocate for public education, Elyse collaborates effectively with elected officials and community partners throughout the county, state, and country to create the opportunities that CMS students need and deserve.
Elyse is a dedicated community leader. She is the co-founder of MeckFUTURE, co-chaired the CMS Bond Oversight Committee, and served on numerous CMS committees and task forces prior to being elected. She currently serves on the boards of directors for Generation Nation and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership. She also serves on the Charlotte Advisory Board for North Carolina Outward Bound School.
Elyse grew up in California and spent seven years of her childhood living on a sailboat traveling the world with her family. She is a graduate of Brown University, worked in the television industry and ran a publishing business. Elyse and her family have lived in Mecklenburg County for over 20 years and her son currently attends CMS. Her daughter is a CMS graduate and currently attends Wake Forest University. Elyse is often spotted chatting with neighbors as she takes Ava, the family dog, on walks in Southeast Charlotte.
